Stepping Stones: Mission Impossible - The Original

Transformational Tip
Did Jesus really die on the cross for my sins? How about come back to life? Then ascend into heaven? These all seem literally unbelievable. Yet here is one reason why I believe them to be true.
From that first Easter Sunday till now, the world is radically different and the spread of Christianity and it's impact is profound. Our calendar is based on Christ, the Bible is still the best seller every year by landslide. We use God's name in everyday language to curse things(I am not advocating) or bless them.
Mission Impossible: Change the world by starting with an "illegitimate" birth to teenage parents in an animal stable in a manger..... in a small occupied outpost of the Roman Empire to a conquered, poor, and rejected people. A socioeconomically lowly carpenter, uneducated, would then pick 12 odd, relative marginal guys from societal standards, and wander around a nowhere land, teaching in the hills and a very small geographic area in the Middle East. Jesus' 12 disciples didn't even get most of the stuff He was teaching and had a hard time applying it as they were still fighting about who Jesus loved the most and who would be at His right hand when He overpowered the ruling powers.
For this Impossible Mission to succeed from this meager beginning, something miraculous had to occur 2000 some years ago because, that day after Christ's death on the Cross the future seemed pretty bleak for the band of 12 disciples and their immediate circle. They were afraid they could be the next to be executed and their leader was humiliatingly and convincingly defeated without a fight.
Only His resurrection and ascension to heaven could ignite, clarify, focus, and convince, this unlikely group of now revolutionary generals/church leaders to engineer the true kingdom revolution that continues today.
Do you believe in miracles? We are no different than the disciples and Mary Magdalene and the rest. God could do the impossible without us, but through His love for us, He longs to include us in doing the impossible. Make yourself available to be part of the impossble and exciting missions God has for you. Don't be afraid or limit yourself or God. He is amazing as we have seen these last 2000 years from that Saturday after Jesus' death.

Prayer
Dear Father, you are so powerful and loving. Thanks for wanting to work with and through us to carry out your plans. I confess I often have my eyes on my agenda, my will, and not yours and miss out on opportunities to have a front row seat and be part of the miracles you are performing or have to abort because of me. Please grow my faith and belief in the impossible and trust you when you don't perform miracles, that your will and timeline are perfect and mine aren't. In Jesus' Holy name and through His miraculous work, AMEN.

The Truth
4 And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, "you heard from me;
5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."
6 So when they had come together, they asked him, "Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?"
7 He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority.
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
Acts 1:4-8
1 Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples!
2 Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works!
3 Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice!
4 Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually!
5 Remember the wondrous works that he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he uttered,

Stepping Stones: Do You Keep God In A Box/Tomb?

Transformational Tip
When the Mary, Mary, Peter, and the rest visited the tomb on Easter morning, they were saddened, upset, worried, and edgy. They had no idea what to make of the empty tomb. Jesus performed many miracles, talked of ruling His kingdom, raised Lazarus from the dead, and taught that he will rise from the dead in 3 days. Why were they surprised and not excited to see an empty tomb. Seems like they would be rejoicing and looking for where he would appear to them.
How often do we react the same way...... believe God is as limited as us, think He's restricted to the same reality we are, don't believe His promises and predictions, and underestimate His power.
My life has really changed when I realized he is bigger than me and I believe what He promises and expect the unexpected!
Don't expect God to be dormant in a Tomb. He is at work in and around you.... expect it, embrace it, and enjoy it.
Thank God the tomb is empty, but why were they surprised. I hope you aren't in your everyday trials.
Happy Easter from the Lighthouse Network staff. May His power over death bolden and encourage your advancement against whatever trials and threats you are facing.

Prayer
Thank you Father for your power you give us by Christ's death and resurrection and through your Holy Spirit to be free of sin's grip and Satan's schemes. Give me a heart that will love you even 1/1000 of what you love me. Keep fresh in my mind your promises and character, so in times of uncertainty, I don't put you in a box and limit my expectations and understanding of your plan and power. I pray you grant our readers eyes that see your awesome plans for them. In Christ's powerful and magnified name, AMEN!

The Truth
40 For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Matthew 12:40
31 for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, "The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, after three days he will rise."
32 But they did not understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him.
Mark 9:31
19 Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."
20 The Jews then said, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will you raise it up in three days?"

Stepping Stones: Are You A Judas Or A Peter?

Transformational Tip
When we know the outcome, hindsight in 20:20. Well, 2000 years ago, on that day between Christ's crucifixion and resurrection(sorry to spoil the surprise), the disciples must have been in disarray, discouraged, bewildered, afraid for their lives, etc. Most affected I think would be Judas who betrayed Jesus for a little money(on the surface), and "ever faithful" Peter, who denied Jesus 3 times, even after Jesus told Peter he would and Peter, in disbelief, said he wouldn't deny Christ.
Both Judas and Peter screwed up and rejected Christ....now they have a major DECISION to make. Receive God's forgiveness, victory over sin, and love, and put your trust and confidence in Him and His Son who died for us and joyously rejoice...... Or let sin defeat them, wallow in guilt, and self pity, be miserable, and kill ourselves, whether literally like Judas or emotionally, relationally, psychologically, and spiritually, like so many of us do. Judas relied on his own abilities and resources, realized how flawed and impotent those are to deal with his act, and decided to kill himself. Peter relied on God's abilities and resources, realized how perfect and omnipotent they are to deal with his act, and chose to glorify God and live a victorious life.
We face this decision regularly, as we are sinners and sin a bunch....rejecting Jesus when we choose my will be done instead of thy will be done.
Choose to side with our victorious Savior, don't be faked out by Satan as he wants you to believe your situation is bleak, your actions are irreparable, and Jesus is not victorious.
Judas killed himself....Peter become the rock of the early church that revolutionized the world.
What will you decide? And don't let it be one and done, but make it an intentional, daily, decision. Whether you achieve your God-given potential and attain the love, joy and peace you strive for depends on it.

Prayer
O gracious Father. I confess that even though I intellectually have you on the throne of my heart and mind, in reality, I reject your kingship and put my selfish desires, agendas, and need to avoid discomfort on the throne. Thank you so much for your forgiveness that you extend to me, unconditionally, even when I reject you big-time, or for a long time. Like the incredible father who received his prodigal son, you have your arms open for me every time I return. Then you have a feast and bless me beyond my dreams. Help the amazement of your greatness and goodness energize me daily. Grow me to be as gracious to others as you have been to me. In Jesus' sacrificial name. AMEN.

The Truth
2 Now Judas, who betrayed him, also knew the place, for Jesus often met there with his disciples.
3 So Judas, having procured a band of soldiers and some officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, went there with lanterns and torches and weapons.
4 Then Jesus, knowing all that would happen to him, came forward and said to them, "Whom do you seek?"
5 They answered him, "Jesus of Nazareth." Jesus said to them, "I am he." Judas, who betrayed him, was standing with them.
John 18:2-5
56 Then a servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the light and looking closely at him, said, "This man also was with him."
57 But he denied it, saying, "Woman, I do not know him."
58 And a little later someone else saw him and said, "You also are one of them." But Peter said, "Man, I am not."
59 And after an interval of about an hour still another insisted, saying, "Certainly this man also was with him, for he too is a Galilean."
60 But Peter said, "Man, I do not know what you are talking about." And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.
61 And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, "Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times."
62 And he went out and wept bitterly.
Luke 22:56-62
3 Then when Judas, his betrayer, saw that Jesus was condemned, he changed his mind and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders,
4 saying, "I have sinned by betraying innocent blood." They said, "What is that to us? See to it yourself."
5 And throwing down the pieces of silver into the temple, he departed, and he went and hanged himself.
Matthew 27:3-5
1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who are elect exiles of the dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
1Peter 1:1-3
19 Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, "Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I meant by saying, 'A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me'?
20 Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy.
21 When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world.
22 So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.
John 16:19-22

Stepping Stones: The Greatest Day of All Time

Transformational Tip
I was on national TV when I was 12 and 13. My parents gave me a great surprise birthday party when I was 18, and my wife and 3 girls gave me an awesome surprise 40th. The day I met my wife - love at first sight. Wedding Day, and night. The birth of all 3 of the greatest girls a father could have. These were great days, but amazingly, I wasn't even alive for the greatest day of my life.
About 2000 years ago, the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, the only Perfect Man ever, endured humiliation, the false accusations of ignorant and corrupted rulers, to die a physically painful death on the cross for ME! He took my punishment for all(that is a lot) my sins(big ones and little ones). He was even willing to endure the 3 hour separation from His Father as He bore our sins. He was willing to do that for Me and YOU!
Because of that GREAT FRIDAY, in accepting His death and payment, I am free of Satan's power, man's schemes, or sin's guilt. I am in God's loving, powerful, and protective arms forever. What relief and peace, no matter what God allows to come into my life.
Does your greatest day compare with mine? The cool thing is that it can be yours too, just humbly accept Christ as your Savior and King..... He died for your daily and eternal freedom, too.

Prayer
Glorious Heavenly Father, Thanks for your eternal love, that pursued me from Heaven above, to a dirty manger, lived as a menial carpenter's life in a slave family, worked with 12 guys that needed a lot of help, was falsely accused, scorned, whipped, tortured, and killed.....for me. I am sorry I stray from you, but your love and sacrifice doesn't depend on my obedience, it truly was, is, and will always be, unconditional. Help me rest in this truth and your redeeming act every day, and live a rejoicing life so other's see your mercy, grace, power, and love. In Jesus' great and humble name above all names. Amen.

The Truth
34 And Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." And they cast lots to divide his garments.
35 And the people stood by, watching, but the rulers scoffed at him, saying, "He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ of God, his Chosen One!"
36 The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine
37 and saying, "If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!"
38 There was also an inscription over him, "This is the King of the Jews."
39 One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, "Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!"
40 But the other rebuked him, saying, "Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?
41 And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong."
42 And he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."
43 And he said to him, "Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise."
44 It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour,
45 while the sun's light failed. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two.
46 Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!" And having said this he breathed his last.
47 Now when the centurion saw what had taken place, he praised God, saying, "Certainly this man was innocent!"
Luke 23:34-47

Stepping Stones: Thy Kingdom, Thy Will or My Kingdom, My Will

Transformational Tip
Trying to control circumstances, details, events, and even people is a mirage I lustfully pursue at times. Avoiding the possibility of discomfort, uneasiness, uncertainty, or pain usually drives my controlling tendencies. I think my plan better serves my needs, and since I am a nice guy, my plan will benefit others also.
Even Jesus, when anticipating that immense pain just before that Good Friday 2000 years ago, wondered for a moment if He had a better plan than God..... but knew that God's plan really was the perfect plan. So Jesus who was perfect, all powerful, and all knowing, was willing to trust His Father's will and agenda instead of his own.
We are ignorant, know nothing of the future, have minimal power over ourselves, let alone others, events, and circumstances. Yet we try, even demand to control and manipulate to avoid minor discomfort. When other things happen anyways because we can't control much at all, we dare doubt God's plan and wish our will occurred instead of the circumstances our Loving and Omnipotent God willed into our life.
Who died and left you king of your kingdom? Actually Jesus died for you to show you He has the power and authority to be the king of your life.
If Jesus could be a servant in God's kingdom, we should be grateful and happy to be a servant to the King of Kings.
In today's decisions, compare your will to His, please choose His. Life is better that way.........mine certainly is!

Prayer
Dear Father, I confess that I am impatient at times and want my will to have immediate gratification and answers. Thank you for your patience with me, and the grace you grant me, daily, in protecting me from my will, and helping me see your love and wisdom in your ways. Continue to open my eyes so I can get out of the Holy Spirit's way in teaching me humility and openness to your authority and will in and for my life. Continue to transform my heart to conform to your desires and not my own. Thanks for sending Jesus to die for me, so I could join your Kingdom forever. In my Savior's name, Amen.

The Truth
And he withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and knelt down and prayed, saying, "Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done." And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
Luke 22:41-44
I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart."
Psalm 40:8
Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.

Stepping Stones: Do You Have Eyes That Really See?

Transformational Tip
Why do we believe lies? Some of us spend our lives convincing ourselves that certain things about us and others are true, when in fact, we're deceiving ourselves. We begin this as a defense mechanism stemming from a survival instinct, and as children, it may be the only way we can cope with difficult situations.

At what point do we begin to face reality? For some of us, we never do and spend our lives making excuses for those who mistreat us and putting up with it because of feeling unworthy of respect, fear of their rejection, or perhaps, fearing their reaction if we stand up to them. But God calls us His children who are worthy of respect because of our relationship with Him. We must begin to believe this truth and act on it.

Today, stop and think about a couple of your decisions. Analyze the information about yourself and others that you are using to make that decision. Run the info by a couple close friends to see if your information is accurate, or better yet, compare it to the Bible's truth. Sometimes you'll be amazed at the cracks(distortions) in our foundations, hindering our (and the Holy Spirit's) efforts to become strong Lighthouses as we face life's storms.

Prayer
Glorious Heavenly Father, I thank You for calling me your child and drawing me into Your arms where I will find comfort and peace. Your forgiveness toward me is more than I deserve, yet You give it freely out of Your great love for me. Though I don't understand why You do it, I accept Your mercy and grace, and cling to You as my source of dignity, strength and acceptance. In Jesus' name. Amen.

The Truth
"Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you...when you walk through the fire, you will not be burned...For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior...Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you..."
Isaiah 43:1-4
"...If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free."
John 8:31-32
You desire truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.
Psalm 51:6

Stepping Stone: "Certain Woman", Armors Up for Victory

Transformational Tip
I am thinking about the "certain woman" in Mark who has spent all of her money on many doctors for 12 years to cure her hemorrhaging sickness, all to no avail. When she heard Jesus was coming, she said, "If I could just touch His clothes, I would be cured." How did she know that? How did she know she wouldn't have to ask, beg, or even look at Him? The answer is simply this....she was a woman who knew the Word of God!
She knew her Old Testament scripture. Jesus was a rabbi and therefore wore a rabbi's garment, which had a "fringe" around the bottom, the hem, which was called the "wings" of the garment. She knew that Malachi 4:2 tells us that His omnipotence was such that it permeated His clothes, thus there was healing in His "wings". This woman put on the Armor of God - the Belt of Truth, the Sword of the Spirit, and the Shield of Faith in particular.
(see the link to Spiritual Basics and then click on "Armor of God")

Prayer
O Father, how wonderful is your Word that enlightens us and stabilizes our soul/mind in this troubled world. Help me to be a woman of the Word like this "certain woman" whose confidence and trust was rooted in the truth of Your Word and your faithfulness in abiding by Your promises. "I will worship toward Your holy temple, and praise Your name for Your loving-kindness and for Your truth's sake; for You have magnified Your Word above all Your name."(Psalm 138:2)
In Jesus' Holy name, AMEN!

The Truth
And a certain woman who had had an issue of blood twelve years, and had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and had not been bettered any, but rather came to worse, having heard about Jesus, she came in the press behind and touched His garment. For she said, If I may but touch only His clothes, I will be cured. And instantly the fountain of her blood dried up. And she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. And knowing instantly within Himself that power had gone out of Him, Jesus turned Himself around in the press and said, Who touched My clothes? And His disciples said to Him, You see the crowd pressing on You, and do You say, Who touched Me? And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had been done in her, came and fell down before Him and told Him all the truth. And He said to her, Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be whole from your plague.
Mark 5:25-34
And they begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His robe. And as many as touched were made perfectly whole.
Matthew 14:36
But to you who fear My name, the Sun of Righteousness shall arise, and healing will be on His wings.
Malachi 4:2

Stepping Stones: Your Future Secured

Transformational Tip
Knowing that your future is absolutely secured can free you to live abundantly today. Know that your Lord has prepared this day for you with the highest concern imaginable. When I was playing a game that we were heavy favorites, or taking a practice test, or giving a presentation that wasn't graded, I was so free to experiment and try knew ways to be better without fear of punishment, embarrassment, or failure. As a Christian, the war is won and we are victors through Christ. Do we go into each day with a victors' attitude and fearlessness, or are we hesitant and worried about the outcome. Instead of approaching the day as a blank page that you need to fill up, try living in an ever responsive mode....celebrating His victory and the spiritual spoils and blessings He promises us.

Prayer
Dear Father God,
I take refuge in You. I come to you with a deep level of trust. This trust is not always easy for me, but I try to remember that Your way is the perfect way. I know by Your Word that nothing can deny me my promised inheritance in heaven. Thank You Lord. I know that even if I falter as I go through this day, this life, You will never let go of my hand. Thank you for defeating Satan, sin, and death, and for taking my penalty. Please help me live out of the freedom of your victory and the gratitude of your love, sacrifice, and perfect provision for my all my needs. Thank You Father. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

The Truth
The steps of a man are established by the LORD, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the LORD upholds his hand.
Psalm 37:23-24
This God-his way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.
Psalm 18:30

Stepping Stones: What Are You? A Carrot, Egg, or Coffee Bean?

Transformational Tip
A carrot, an egg, and a cup of coffee... Believe me, you will never look at a cup of coffee, or adversity the same way again.

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life, and how things were so hard for her. She said she did not know how she was going to make it, and felt like she just wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling... It seemed as if when one problem was solved, a new one arose. Her mother calmly took her into the kitchen. She filled three pots with water, and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to a boil.

In the first pot, her mother placed carrots; in the second, she placed eggs; and in the last, she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil, without saying a word. In about 20 minutes, she turned off the burners. She then fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them into a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl.
Turning to her daughter, she asked, "Tell me what you see?" "Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied.

Her mother brought her over closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee... The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma.

The daughter then asked, "What does it mean, mother?"

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the exact same adversity ... boiling water. And each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak, more pliable. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid-like interior, but after sitting in the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

"Which are you?" she asked her daughter. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?"
Think of this: 'Which am I?'

Am I the carrot that seems strong... but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength? Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit... but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship, or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same... but on the inside am I bitter and tough, with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water... the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor.
If you ARE like the bean... when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you.

When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest... do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity?
Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?
Count your blessings, not your problems...

Prayer
Dear Father, I confess that I often let adversity affect me before I seek You and use Your lenses to see my circumstances and situations more clearly. Thank you for not giving up on me, even though I stray from your ways. Thank you for protecting me from situations that would only be harmful and no benefit could come from them. Please help me be humble to your plan for me and your strategy to grow me, so I can see all the situations you bring into my life as opportunities for my growth and to glorify your name. Strengthen me to step up and accept the challenge and let the power of the Holy Spirit flow through me, and not to cringe back and get in the way of Your Spirit. I give thanks for all things You bring in my life.
In Jesus' name, all God's people say, AMEN.

The Truth
And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life. For the famine has been in the land these two years, and there are yet five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest. And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors. So it was not you who sent me here, but God. He has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house and ruler over all the land of Egypt.
Gen 45:5-8
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Phil 4:6-7

Stepping Stones: Delivered Within vs. From Adversity

Transformational Tip
Many mistakenly view Christian life as being delivered from all adversity. But what Christian life really means is to be delivered in adversity. My freshman basketball coach made us run for the first week of practice. No shooting, just running.... I was a shooter, not a track star. We thought he was crazy while we were puking and thinking of quitting. Coach told us, "you will be better players, just trust me." He was right, I had a great year scoring, and our team was better prepared than almost any other opponent. Our coach had overcome these adversities in the past and we needed to trust his plan. Jesus tells us not to be surprised when adversity strikes, but to take heart for..."I have overcome the world". You can trust His plan, laid out in the Bible, for His track record of overcoming adversity is perfect!

Prayer
Dear God,
I am learning to thank You in all things. At time this is very difficult for me, but I am learning that it is through adversity and strain that I build strength. I do not ask for strength for tomorrow Lord, I ask for strength for the adversity that faces me today. What a comfort I feel when I read the Word of Jesus telling us He has overcome this world.

The Truth
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
John 16:33
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
No evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent.
Psalm 91:1, 10

Stepping Stones: The Call of God

Transformational Tip
God called on Jesus to do what can be defined as "absoluter disaster". And Jesus called upon his disciples to actually see Him put to death...and to a place where there hearts were broken. Any observer would say this was all an absolute failure at the time. But we all know now that it was a beautiful triumph from God's standpoint, because God's purpose is never the same as man's purpose. Do you place a premature finish line on God's plan....judging the outcome before the whole plan has a chance to play out. You don't judge or quit a sports game, court case, movie, romance, or book half way through because you will miss a lot, so don't judge or quit on God's plans prematurely either or you will miss out on miracles!

Prayer
My Lord and God,
Thank You Lord for Your Word. I pray that through You Holy Spirit that I will gain the knowledge and wisdom to understand that Your plans are perfect plans...even though I do not always "..grasp what was said"
I pray this day for fellowship and oneness with You God, and for awareness that You are taking me into Your purpose. Help me increasingly understand that it is Your compelling purpose that lies behind everything in life.

The Truth
And taking the twelve, he said to them, "See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished. For He will be delivered over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and shamefully treated and spit upon. And after flogging Him, they will kill Him, and on the third day He will rise." But they understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said.
Luke 18:31-34
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.
Psalm 131:13-16

Stepping Stones: Are You Going To Heaven?

Transformational Tip
A good friend just died a few days ago. She knew she was going to heaven because of what the Bible promises. Can you say for certain that when you die you will go to Heaven? A lot of people have the misconception that being "good" and believing there is a God is enough. Being good? Who is without sin? The Bible says no one. Believing that God exists will not get you to Heaven either. Even Satan is certain there is a God. You must be born again. There is a certain man in the Bible (Nicodemus) who loves the Lord and is confused by God's Words so he asks "How can I be born again when I am already born of my mother?" The answer is you must be born in Spirit also. Jesus is the only bridge that will get us to The Father. You must admit you are a sinner. The bible says even a bad thought is sin. You must ask forgiveness and have a personal relationship with the Lord. You can't earn it, you can't buy it and you will never be good enough to get to Heaven on your own. So it is up to each of us to choose. Heaven or hell? (For more, see the Spiritual Basics link below then click "Salvation" at the top of the next page.)

Prayer
Heavenly Father, my prayer is for my family, my friends, people I have yet to meet and even my enemy's to all go to Heaven one day. I feel a quickening in my heart to pray salvation for everyone. As Your Word says, You are not a respecter of persons. I want and pray that whoever is reading this knows God is especially fond of you. I know in my heart it is true. Thank you Jesus for dying on the cross so that we may have the choice of Heaven or hell. God bless You Lord. In Jesus' Name. Amen...

The Truth
The son of man came to find lost people and save them.
Luke 19: 10
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3: 16

Stepping Stones: How Do You Look At Women?

Transformational Tip
The headline in the news read "Miss America". The article described how beautiful she was. It even gave her measurements. The measure of success by which the world rates women is their looks. Just look at the glamour magazines. We seem to learn nothing of people's hearts. No talk of their honesty, faith, convictions or even if they know the Love of God. Sadly, the world teaches young women, all women that they are measured by what they look like. What do you value in others?...yourself? Do you get your confidence (or lack of) from your looks or some other material item? Value what God values and be confident because of who HE is and what He will do in and for you.

Prayer
Father God, I pray for all the women [including myself] that get caught up in this hype of beauty, fame and fortune. I don't want the world's measure of success. I desire the things of the heart like love, wisdom and spirituality. Even older women are bombarded with looking younger. We see advertisements of facelifts and plastic surgery everyday. Help me to grow old gracefully. I repent of any thoughts of outside beauty. I do know beauty comes from the inside and somehow I let my own thoughts go to the outside. I want my values to measure up to You Father and not the world. I am Yours. I ask this in Jesus Name. Amen.

The Truth
Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.
Proverbs 31:30
Finally brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute and if anything is worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.
Phil 4:8

Stepping Stones: What is the Difference Between Flattery and Praise?

Transformational Tip
It's easy to flatter, it's harder to praise. God's Word speaks about flattery to others. It is not without consequence, yet people do it all the time. We should all know the difference between flattering someone and praising them. Here is a quote that will give us all a better understanding:
"Flattery is from the teeth out. Sincere appreciation is from the heart out." Dale Carnegie
Today, let people know what they do that touches your and God's heart.

Prayer
Heavenly Father I have seen plenty of flattering going on in my place of work. It is used to get ahead faster than others without the work ethic others have. It saddens me. I know, life is not fair, I have been told that since childhood. Some people are so starved for affection that they can't even recognize flattery from praise. Lord, what about me? Do I ever flatter without realizing it? Speak to my heart today Lord and teach me how to praise others for Your glory and not my own. Thank you Father God. I humbly ask this in Jesus' Name. Amen.

The Truth
They speak idly everyone with his neighbor with flattering lips and a double heart they speak. May the Lord cut off all flattering lips and the tongue that speaks proud things.....
Psalms 12: 2-3
Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as it is good for edification according to the need of the moment, that it may give grace to those that hear.
Eph 4:29

Stepping Stones: Getting Along

Transformational Tip
Do you often disagree with people? It is okay to disagree, but guard your attitude. We all know people that get along well with others. They seem to get along with everyone from the neighborhood butcher to their own families. How do they do it? Simple. They show a genuine interest in others. When they are with you they are with you. It's pretty easy to spot a "put on" compared to a genuine persona. Take interest in the person, not what they do, because God brought them into your life for a reason. Figure out how you can grow to become more Christ-like and help them become more Christ-like at the same time.

Prayer
Father God, it is so important to my relationship with You that I love others. Help me to be sensitive and caring in my speech. Give me a sense of humor that is funny but not demeaning to others. Teach me to really listen when someone speaks to me. I desire to be genuine and my heart relies on You Father. Teach me to respect the opinions of others while still maintaining unity. Help me accept and love others while not condoning sinful behaviors. I ask this in Jesus' Name, Amen.

The Truth
Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interest of others.
Philippians 2: 3-4
How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity
Psalm 133:1
The greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. And the second is to love your neighbor as yourself. There are no commandments greater than these.
Mark 12: 30 - 31

Stepping Stones: Compassion is Action

Transformational Tip
Compassion requires action. We all need compassion. It is something we should give and receive. Sometimes tears shed for self originate in self centered weakness. Tears shed for others are tears of strength. Abraham Lincoln once said "I am sorry for the man who can't feel the whip when it is laid on another mans back." In our natural state, we are self-centered, but through Christ and from the Holy Spirit, we can be compassionate. The more we get to know God and relate with Him, the more we love the things (people especially) that God loves.

Prayer
Father God, give me the insight to see hearts that are hurting. I know that sometimes people seem to look so perfect and put together on the outside; that is why I ask now for Your discernment. I ask that you speak thru me giving me the words to say. Words of compassion; whether it be a friend, an acquaintance, or even strangers. Let me be thankful for all who give compassion. I ask that You pour Your blessings upon them. I ask in Jesus Name. Amen.

The Truth
Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous
1 Peter 3:9-10
He has called His wonders to be remembered; the Lord is gracious and compassionate.
Psalm 111:4

Stepping Stones: Why Pray?

Transformational Tip
Did you ever ask yourself this question? Why do we pray when God already knows what will happen in our future? Can we change God's mind? According to God's Word we can. Not sure how or why, but our prayers are important to God. First there was Abraham (Genesis 18:23-33) who pleaded with God to change His mind and let the people of Sodom and Gomorrah live. Notice how Abraham even pushed it. And how about Moses? Remember when God was going to destroy His people? (Exodus 32:9-14) Again, Moses changed Gods mind. God wants to see our heart and our motives aligning more with His and He sees our core in our prayers...and He listens.

Prayer
Lord when I have prayed on behalf of someone else I have seen things change. I have prayed for healings in body, mind, and spirit and watched excitedly for Your answers. To God be all the Glory! I thank You Jesus for Your healing. I thank You Holy Spirit for your direction and I thank you God for listening and answering prayers. My desire is to be close to You. When I stray (which You know I will) I know You will gently bring me back. I ask these things in the precious Name of Jesus. Amen.

The Truth
Then he said, oh may the Lord not be angry, and I shall speak only this once; suppose 10 are found there? And He said I will not destroy it on account of the ten.
Genesis 18: 32
So the Lord changed His mind about the harm which He said He would do to His people
Exodus 32: 14
And what was God's answer to him...?
Romans 11:4

Stepping Stones: Hope

Transformational Tip
Where is your hope? We should never put our hope into anything that changes. This could be career, money, beauty, or even another person. Instead put your hope in our Heavenly Father for He never changes. He is immutable, never changing. Confidence in Him, not ourselves is hard in the beginning, but look at your resume, then look at His. He is everywhere, all powerful, and all knowing. His perfect love loves us unconditionally. Nothing else and no one else can do that. If your hope is in God alone, you will never be disappointed.

Prayer
Father God my hope is in You. When I stray I need Your help to get back to the simple basics of Your Word. Those basics are hope, faith and love. With You Lord I know that there is no hopeless situation. You never promised us a "happy hedge" that would surround us. I am so thankful that I can always trust You will be with me. Help me daily to deepen my relationship with You. Thank you Father God. I ask this in Jesus' Name. Amen.

The Truth
Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; my flesh also will rest in hope.
Psalms 16: 9
And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.
Romans 5:5

Stepping Stones: Trust

Transformational Tip
Trusting the Lord can be difficult. Human trust tends to be conditional. That condition is predictability. "If I can predict the outcome, I trust the situation (or person.)" God is very consistent. He is consistent in grace. He is consistent in love. However, He is not predictable, because we base predictability on our standards, timeline, and agenda, not HIS.
Think of someone you trust. What did it take for them to earn your trust? Time? Communication? Honesty? Following through on promises? Your trust of that person didn't develop overnight. Allow yourself the time to develop trust in God. He will be patient....and is more trustworthy than you could ever imagine!

Prayer
O Lord God, I pray that your Spirit will be with me today and open my heart to Your loving grace and patience. Help me to learn to trust You more as I turn my will over to you daily. Leaning on my own understanding is not wise as I have proven that time and time again. Reveal to me as this day unfolds the causes of my doubts. Enlighten me Lord on how better to trust You. In Jesus' name, Amen

The Truth
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do and He will light your paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6
May the God of all hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13

Stepping Stones: Encouragement

Transformational Tip
Do you need a word of encouragement today? We all need it when we are feeling unappreciated, or hurting, or just plain needing some uplifting. Even our Presidents need some encouraging words. When Abraham Lincoln was shot they found in his pocket a scrap piece of paper that someone had written to encourage him. He had kept that right in his pocket. It must have been important to him. The writing was nearly illegible, yet he seemed to know the value of encouragement. Be encouraged that the King of Kings, Lord of Lords loves you, died for you, and continually pursues and makes time for you regardless of whether we reciprocate or not.

Prayer
Father God, help me to encourage others, to share the love of Jesus by doing just that, encouraging one and another. We run into people all day long that might need just a kind word, a hug, maybe even a scrap of paper uplifting them. I can give something as simple as a smile. Show me active ways of helping others. Father, thank You that I am capable of this regardless of my own mood or even health. It is when I walk closely by You Lord that it becomes easy. I ask these things in Jesus Precious Name. Amen.

The Truth
Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned, as it were, with salt, so that you may know how you should respond to each person.
Colossians 4:6
... but David found strength (encouragement) in the Lord his God.
1 Samuel 30:6

Stepping Stones: How Is Your Prayer Life?

Transformational Tip
Do you pray with confidence and conviction, or are your prayers shallow, timid or hollow? When Jesus came down among men, He offered these comforting words "Our Father can handle that for us, whatever it may be." God provided for our greatest need, salvation, before we even asked for it. He isn't going to "waste" that effort by refusing to meet our other needs. We need only pray with boldness and faith knowing our Father is listening. He will answer "Yes" or "No, because I have something even better!"

Prayer
Father God my heart is opened as I take this time to praise and honor You. Help me to pray with a true language of love. Teach me how to pray with specific detail, not just blanket prayers so that I may be built up knowing my prayers are answered. Remind me that You answer prayer in Your time, not mine. I ask these things in Jesus Name. Amen.

The Truth
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4: 6-7
Hear their prayer and help them
1Kings 8:45
The Lord has heard my cry for mercy; the Lord accepts my prayer
Psalm 6:9

Stepping Stones: Seek His Face

Transformational Tip
Seek His face and you will not only find His presence, but you will also find His peace. To receive His peace you much change your position from grasping and controlling to one of openness and trust. The only thing you can grasp onto without doing damage to your soul is His hand.

Prayer
Dear Father, you are so big and I am so small. I thank you for your ever-present help in times of trouble. I ask that Your Holy Spirit within me bring order to this day and to control my thoughts...for Your Word tells me that the mind controlled by the spirit is life and peace. Help me Lord have as much of You and Your peace as possible by making the thousands of correct choices each day. Make my first choice of each day to trust in You. I ask for Your forgiveness when I do not make the right choices. I pray this in the name of Your Son, Jesus.

The Truth
For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace
Romans 8:6
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
Psalm 46:1-2

Stepping Stones: Nothing Can Stop You

Transformational Tip
When you decide on a course of action that is in line with God's will, nothing on this earth can overpower you except you, for He is with you and for you. You may encounter many obstacles as you move step by step toward your goal, but don't be discouraged...never give up. Satan wants your failure, but God wants your success. Whose will and instruction will you align yourself? Don't conform to the world or Satan's will, but pursue God's will through His instruction manual and lead a transformed life. With Your Lord by your side you can overcome any obstacle. Move forward with bold and assured expectations

Prayer
Dear Father,
I praise You and thank You. I thank You for the power and wisdom of Your Word. I want to stay close to You and do things Your way, not my way. I ask that You show me Your path moment by moment, step by step. Instead of me dashing headlong toward my goal, I let You set the pace. I find it easy to trust you on quiet days when nothing much happens...but then the storms come and I am overwhelmed. Help me focus on You, help me remember how much You love me and how I must trust You. I know the more I trust You, the more you enable me to do. Thank You Lord.

The Truth
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
Romans 8:31
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.
Psalm 46:1-3

Stepping Stones: Not Possible to Thank Him Too Much

Transformational Tip
Thank the Lord spontaneously in response to all the beauty around you...and for your abundance of blessing. God certainly doesn't' need our thanks, but still He tells us to constantly give thanks in all things. Why?...Sincere thanks from our heart helps orient our perspective to recognize God really is the author, therefore authority, of the BIG Story and we are His precious stars of the story. He amazingly treats each one of us as if we were the stars of the story who reach our maximum potential by the end of the story. Be careful to not judge how He writes your part, because you don't know the rest of the characters, plot twists, and future chapters of the story. He does, so thank the Lord as an act of will, a disciplined prayer of thanks. Both praise and thanks expands your heart and makes room for Him so be generous with both, and peace with excitement for the next chapter will be one of many rewards.

Prayer
Father God, I thank you for all You have given me, for I know all good comes from You. Help me focus on You my Lord, help me give You thanks even when adversity strikes. Help me understand the intentions of those circumstances you have brought into my life and grow as a result of your challenging and discipline process. Help me fill my spare moments with praise and thanksgiving. I pray to you with a thankful heart, as your son prayed words of thanks at the last supper.

The Truth
give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
1 Thessalonians 5:18
And when he had said these things, he took bread, and giving thanks to God in the presence of all he broke it and began to eat.
Acts 27:35

Stepping Stones: Far Beyond What You Can Imagine

Transformational Tip
If your dreams don't scare you, you aren't really dreaming, you are just planning. Don't put God or the Holy Spirit in a box and limit what they can accomplish in and around you. So many times we undermine or limit our view of God's majesty, power, sovereignty, wisdom, and provision. Come to Him with positive expectations knowing that there is no limit to what He can accomplish in your life and the lives of others. Ask His Holy Spirit to control your mind so that you may think great thoughts of Him.

Prayer
Dear Father, I thank You for Your Word and Your Holy Spirit. Thank You Lord. I feel there is a constant battle for the control of my mind. Even when I pray I have trouble keeping my focus on You. Help me focus on You Father.
I pray for Your help when I become discouraged when many of my prayers remain unanswered...teach me to wait upon You Lord because I know Your timing is perfect timing. Help me to absorb and learn the lessons You are teaching me as I wait on You. Help me keep my eyes wide open to all You are doing in my life and the lives of those I love.

The Truth
Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us
Ephesians 3:20
For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace
Romans 8:6
but they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31

Stepping Stones: Victory is Yours

Transformational Tip
You can achieve a victorious life through living in deep dependence of Jesus. Most time people associate victory with success, with not falling or stumbling...not making mistakes. But those who believe they are successful because of their own human strength tend to go their own way and forget about their Lord. It is through problems and failure, weakness and neediness that you learn to rely on God.

Prayer
Father God, I know that true dependence on You is more than simply asking You to bless what I have already decided to do, rather it is me coming to You each day with an open mind and heart. I invite You Lord to plant your desires for me deep within me. Infuse me with a dream so large that I know I will never achieve it without Your continuous presence in my life. Help me Lord build a profound reliance on You. Help me take my faith-walk, my stepping stones one step at a time, leaning on each step. Thank You Lord for the blessedness of a Victorious life by deepening my dependence on You.

The Truth
You gave a wide place for my steps under me, and my feet did not slip
2 Samuel 22:37
for we walk by faith, not by sight.
2 Corinthians 5:7

for the LORD your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.

Stepping Stones: Learn a New Habit

Transformational Tip
Try saying, "I trust You Jesus" in response to whatever happens to you. And if there is time, think about who He is in all His Power and Glory...then think about the depth and breadth of His love for you. If you don't want to say "I trust you Jesus", what are you going to trust in, because you have to put your trust or confidence in something to navigate life's activity. Ask yourself, "where do I get my confidence", "where does my strength or courage come from", "what makes me bold to act". Often times it is our looks, bank account, social status, intellect, ability to intimidate, argue, manipulate, our spouse, kids, alcohol, guilt, ability to control things, etc, that we find generate our confidence. Some of these are good and some not, but none were able to give us sustained confidence and assurance to manage everyday life ups and downs. In the end, these are pretty hollow and not sustaining, thus fear, anxiety, and concern are what are left with when we don't trust in Him to have our best interests at hand.

Prayer
Dear Father, I come to you with a thankful heart. In You I have confidence and peace. Help me Lord with the simple practice of seeing You in every situation, and to acknowledge that You have sovereign control over the universe. When I view the world from the perspective of "I trust You Jesus", fear loses it grip on me. Help me understand that adverse situations can become growth opportunities for me as long as I affirm my trust in Your son and my savior. I pray that this continual trust will strengthen my relationship with You and keep me close You. I pray this in the name of Jesus.

The Truth
And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.
John 16:23
Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!
Psalm 31:19

Stepping Stones: Do you have the Luck of the Irish?

Transformational Tip
An amazing number of lottery winners, within one year, have divorce, addictions, family estrangement, or legal or financial problems. Why? Luck was on their side, they got what they wanted. But they weren't ready to handle the blessings that came their way. A good parent doesn't' give their 13 year old the keys to the car even though he wants them and thinks driving will make him really happy and change his life. He isn't ready for that responsibility and it will only lead to failure and frustration. God has many blessings He wants to give us, but He is waiting for us to show we have the heart, skills, attitude, and character to handle them. How do you handle good times...adversity? Adversity is really a character test. Everything that happens to you is "good luck" because God knows what is best for you. It is now up to you to appreciate that everyday is a lucky day.

Prayer
O Father,
I come to you with a thankful and receptive heart. I also come to you with a repentant heart; please forgive my sins small and large. I know from your word that sin blocks the full power of the Your Holy Spirit working in and throughout my spirit, mind and body. Prepare me my Lord to receive the bounty of Your blessings and gifts. Help me this day align myself with your plan for me...and I know "good will come to me".

The Truth
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Phi 4:4-7
"Agree with God, and be at peace; thereby good will come to you. Receive instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart.
Job 22:21-22

Stepping Stones: Self-Awareness or Christ-Awareness?

Transformational Tip
Whenever anything begins to distract or disintegrate your life with Jesus Christ, turn to Him at once and ask Him to re-establish your rest. Never allow anything in your life that causes unrest or uneasiness. Think of everything in your life that may cause disintegration as something to wage war against...not as something you should allow to remain. Ask the Lord to place awareness of Him in you, and your self-awareness will vanish.

Prayer
Dear Father God,
Thank You for your Word that guides me and gives me peace in times of uncertainty. I pray that you replace my self-awareness with Christ-Awareness. I know that self-awareness leads to self-pity...and I also know self-pity does not come from You. At times I am shaky Lord, I pray that you will steady me until my completeness in you is absolute.
I pray this and all prayers in the name of Jesus Christ - Amen

The Truth
"....and I will give you rest."
Matthew 11:28
Incline my heart to your testimonies, and not to selfish gain!
Psalm 119:36

Stepping Stones: God-given Empowerment

Transformational Tip
When you are feeling weak and powerless, unprotected and vulnerable, remember, that is NOT the reality. Yes, there is a spiritual war between good and evil, God and Satan. They are fighting for your soul, and the battlefield is your mind. God gives us armor to defend and a sword to actually counter attack against Satan.....cut off the supply lines of strongholds Satan has established in our heart long ago in our immature, pre-salvation years of living. You have a major decision to make every day... Will you put on the armor and take up your sword, or will you walk through the day naked, unprotected, and with no weapon to attack and beat Satan back. Click the "Spiritual Basics" link below and go to the Armor page. Don't go another day without one of God's special gifts to us.

Prayer
Dear Father - We are ever so grateful, Lord, that you did not leave us on this earth to fend for ourselves, that Your plan is for us to care for each other with a love that can only arise from a heart that is intimate with You. Thank you for the God-given empowerment to resist the enemy in every area of our lives, an empowerment that grows from our ever increasing intimacy and knowledge of You. May Your Spirit touch the heart of each and every individual reading the Stepping Stones Devotionals in such a way as they will "know that they know that they know," deep down inside, of Your unconditional love for them.

The Truth
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Ephesians 6: 10-18
and shall say to them, 'Hear, O Israel, today you are drawing near for battle against your enemies: let not your heart faint. Do not fear or panic or be in dread of them, for the LORD your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.'
Deu 20:3-4

Stepping Stone: When We are at our Weakest, We are at our Strongest

Transformational Tip
Remember at this very moment and throughout your day today that with God, NOTHING is impossible. God performs miracles daily and grants us grace and mercy many times over. When you are hoping for a miracle and it doesn't happen, examine what the Perfect Teacher is showing you about yourself, your circumstances, and most importantly, what is at the center of your heart. It is in these times of weakness, when we look outward to serving God, and less inward, that we are strengthened and He is glorified. Use your weakness to draw you close to your God, for only He, not a change in circumstances will bring you the peace and comfort that you desire.

Prayer
O Heavenly Father, I come to you with all my weaknesses, physical, emotional and spiritual. Help me accept your invitation to be comforted in your presence...and to remember that nothing is impossible for you. I pray that I might take my minds off my problems so that I can focus my attention on you. I know that you can do far beyond what I ask, far beyond what I can imagine. Praise you Lord, Thank you Lord. Help me move away from simply asking you to do this and that...rather help me attune myself to what you are already doing in my life.
When fear and anxiety wedges it way into my thoughts, remind me that you are my Shepherd. Through my faith I know you will care for me....so remind me that I need not be afraid of anything. Help release control of my live to your will. Help me know and believe that the safest place I can be is within your will.
In Christ's name I pray, Amen.

The Truth
For with God, nothing will be impossible.
Luke 1:37
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Psalm 23: 1-6

Stepping Stones: Not in the Eyes of Others

Transformational Tip
Do not seek approval in the mirror or in the eyes of others. We all have human standards, personal agendas, and dysfunctions affecting our lenses and forming our criteria for acceptance or approval. God is the only one who sees the whole picture and has our best interests in mind all the time. As a believer in Christ, God sees us as covered with Jesus' blood and washed clean of all sin. The daily sins and mistakes we make, He knows about and wants us to come to Him for forgiveness and help in overcoming them. Remember that in the presence of God you have infinite approval.

Prayer
Dear Father, It is so easy to judge myself on what I see in the mirror. I am realizing now that to evaluate myself on how I look to myself and to others is a trap. Help me to be honest with myself, to dig deeper into my heart for self-examination, and to be more willing and open to Your instruction and guidance in my struggle areas. Show me those you do wish to speak through and help me measure it through your Word and then understand and accept their counsel in my life. Help me to continually seek Your approval for me which Your Word tells me is infinite because it will continue forever....thank You Lord. I desperately desire to please You and experience Your approval.
In Christ's name, Amen.

The Truth
Satisfy us in themorning with your steadfast love that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
Psalm 90:14
I will greatly rejoice in the LORD; my soul shall exult in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

Stepping Stones: Do Not Lean On Your Own Understanding

Transformational Tip
Trust in God with all your heart and mind, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your path straight

Prayer
Dear Father God,
Trusting you with all my heart has been my goal for so many years now, but I'm making such little progress. I think I get in my own way because I try so hard to understand everything. And behind this need to understand is my strong desire to feel in control of my life. I want to trust you completely Lord, but I feel stuck. I ask that Your Holy Spirit help me think trusting thoughts. Instead of relying on my own limited understanding, help me rely on the Holy Spirit to control my mind. I believe Lord that as I walk trusting and talking with you that You will straighten the path before me.

The Truth
For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
Romans 8:6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Stepping Stones: Draw on the grace of God - Now

Transformational Tip
Draw on His grace now, not later. Prayer is how we draw on the grace of God. Don't wait for the best time, pray now. Why are we so slow to learn that we draw on God's grace through prayer? Why are we avoiding engaging with Him, playing "hard to get"? Don't be fooled, thinking you love you more than He loves you. Reach out to Him, tune your radar to Him, and let His grace pour over you.

Prayer
Dear Father,
I pray to you my Lord and my God. I pray to you to show my admiration and devotion, but I also pray to You to receive Your Grace. I am thankful Lord that I can always count on receiving Your grace. When I receive Your grace, I remind myself and show evidence to others that I am Your miracle. Open my eyes and ears that I can develop radar that is tuned to your presence and incredibly wonderful activity in my life. Grow my understanding in how to use your grace to develop the mind of Christ and glorify You. Strengthen me for your use to resist my selfish paths and choose yours with perseverance.
In Jesus' name I humbly come to You, Amen

The Truth
Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain.
2 Corinthians 6:1
Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; listen to my plea for grace.
Psalm 86:6
And from his fullness we have all received grace upon grace.
John 1:16
But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.
For truly, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.
Matthew 13:16,17
to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.'

Stepping Stones: Come to Me...I'll Fulfill Your Needs

Transformational Tip
If you will simply come to Jesus, your real life will come in harmony with your real desires. You will actually cease from sin, and you will find the song of your Lord beginning in your life. You've gone your way, tried your path many times and it leads to worry, frustration, loneliness, uncertainty, or confusion. Your Lord's words are not "do this or do that," but - "Come to me." Follow Him and His way and enjoy the peace, comfort, and love He promises.

Prayer
Dear Father,
Thank you for your Word. So simple, so beautiful..."Come to me."
I not only come to you for rest, but I come to you to raise me from my listlessness, my exhaustion...out of my condition of being half dead while I am still alive. Let Your Holy Spirit penetrate and fill me, giving me the will and determination to let go of everything and deliberately commit to "Come to You." Show me this day the counterfeit path I usually go, and nudge me toward You.
In Christ's name, Amen

The Truth
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28
He delivers the afflicted by their affliction and opens their ear by adversity.
Job 36:15
The LORD helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.
Psalm 37:40
Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, "Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well." And instantly the woman was made well.

but Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven."
Matthew 19:14

Stepping Stones: Surrender the Old Life, Receive the New

Transformational Tip
When we are born again, the Holy Spirit brings to work His new creation in us, and then there will come the time when there is nothing remaining of the old life. He wants to renew us, but we have to help. The one thing God asks of us to receive this new life...unconditional surrender. What are you having difficulty surrendering ....security, control, a substance, food, contentment, lust, approval, pride, _________, interfering with God being on the throne of your heart?

Prayer
Dear Father,
I praise you and thank you for the opportunity to begin a new life, to be born again. I look forward to the day where nothing of my old ways remains in me. I ask that you help me make my old gloomy outlook disappear. Help me achieve that new life that has no lust, no self interest...and where I am no longer victim to the ridicule of others. Help me Lord have and sustain the type of love that "is kind and not provoked". I am beginning to understand now Lord that when I can truly see You at work, I will never again be concerned about the things that happen, because I am actually trusting in my Father in heaven whom this world cannot see.
In Christ's name, Amen

The Truth
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Love is patient and kind; lovedoes not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. Itdoes not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful.
1 Corinthians 13:4-5
If a man dies, shall he live again? All the days of my service I would wait, till my renewal should come

Stepping Stones: Fear and Worry Rob You of Today's Abundant Living

Transformational Tip
The only purpose of fear and worry is to rob you of today's abundant living. Know God loves you and sacrificed greatly to provide for your biggest problem. He is just as faithful to provide for all your smaller problems as well. Trust the Lord to open the way as you go, for with Him, nothing is impossible.

Prayer
Dear Father,
I thank you for the precious gift of today. Help me focus on the gift you have given me today. Help me Jesus, for I am already grasping for and worrying about future gifts. Help me to gratefully receive today's gift, unwrapping it tenderly and delving into it's depths. As I take pleasure in this gift...I find you within it.
I thank you Lord for Your peace. Through your peace I am learning not to give into fear and worry, for their only purpose is to rob me of abundant living. I hold Your hand in trusting dependence, the future looks uncertain and even precarious...but I hear you tell me that this is exactly as You want it to be. Secret things belong to You my God...and future things are secret things. When I try in vain to figure out the future, I am grasping at things that are Yours. Show me the next stepping stone Lord, and the stone after that, and the one after that. I will relax and enjoy this journey in Your presence, trusting You to open the way as I go. I know with You, nothing is impossible. I pray this with a thankful heart - Amen

The Truth
Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.
Isaiah 12:2
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Stepping Stones: God is More Trustworthy than Me

Transformational Tip
It all comes down to whether you have faith in (act as if they it is true) the promises, character of God and His teachings in the Bible. Do you trust He is your greatest advocate and has supreme abilities to take care of you? Faith and trust are like a staff that you can lean on as you climb uphill. If you trust in God, the staff will support all of your life's weight as needed.

Prayer
Dear Father,
I find the thought of leaning on you very comforting since I feel as if my path is more uphill than down. I confess to you that there are many things that I lean on when things get tough, things that block me from receiving Your precious gifts. I pray that you help me turn away from all theses inadequacies and shift my focus and weight to You.

The Truth
Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.
Proverbs 3:5
And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you.
Psalm 9:10

Stepping Stones: Don't Be God, Let God Be God

Transformational Tip
Why do we try to control people and circumstances? That's God's job. As the author (thus authority) of THE story, He knows exactly how to write the individual chapters (our stories) and knit them together to fit wonderfully into the Big story. He controls all the characters and circumstances in our story to help our development and maturity. When you feel you are grasping for control, actually open your hands with palms pointed upward. This simple gesture will release control to your Lord and invite him to take charge.

Prayer
Dear Father,
I come to you with open hands...with an open mind. I turn control over to you. Help me Lord release my stronghold on all the wrong things so that my hands and mind are free to grasps onto you. I am beginning to understand that all my reaching and grasping are veiled attempts to satisfy my desire to be filled with you. I seek your light, and I desire to be a lighthouse so that all those I come in contact with can see Your light shining through me. I give all glory to you my Lord. In the name of Jesus Christ - Amen.

The Truth
I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing
1 Timothy 2:8

Stepping Stones: Peace is a Decision

Transformational Tip
To receive the peace promised by God, you must change your stance from grasping and controlling to openness and trust. Big decision.... put your trust in yourself or God. Who has more command and power over the world; more knowledge of how life works and what the future holds. I mistakenly think I love me the most, know what is best for me, and am willing to sacrifice anything for my best interest, but God has proven His skills, power, and devotion to me every Christmas, Good Friday, Easter, and every other day. Does your track record match God's? The only thing you can grasp and hold onto without weakening your soul is His hand.

Prayer
Dear Father,
I realize at this moment that I grasp for material things because it makes me feel safe. Help me know and understand that what I do with my body and mind can help or hurt what goes on in my soul. Help me take the steps required to achieve the "Mind of Christ"

The Truth
For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, "Do not fear; I will help you"
Isaiah 41:13
Have you an arm like God, and can you thunder with a voice like his?
Job 40:9
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 2:5

Stepping Stones: God Is Always Lovingly Pursuing Us

Transformational Tip
Know that God is closer than you could ever believe...he is closer than the air you breathe. God created us to be with him, and even though we chose to do life without Him, He continues to lovingly and relentlessly pursue us. What king or leader would sacrifice all he had, prestige, glory, comforts, to become a baby to a conquered people's teenage peon mother. Born in a stable and sleep in an animal's food trough. Jesus did this then gave his life humbly so we could be in a relationship with God. He is always with you, wanting to help and comfort you. If you recognize and accept this fact, you will never feel lonely again. Spend time with and enjoy Him today.

Prayer
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for your Word which tells me of your ever presence, your closeness to me. Let the times when loneliness envelopes me remind me of my need for you. I deeply desire to experience your closeness. Please help me and those in my life to take the stepping stone to You. I come to you with my human frailty and weakness, fill me with Your Holy Spirit and with the life you have intended for me. I pray this in Your holy name - Amen.

The Truth
Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.
Genesis 28:16
The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.
Psalm 145:18

Stepping Stones: Faith Brings Freedom

Transformational Tip
There is no "knowing", there is only faith, and once there is faith, there is peace in your heart forever and ever." Jesus teaches us through His Word that the amount of faith we have is not as important as its genuineness. Do we genuinely respond to life as if knowing the Bible is true? When we do, life is so much easier to understand and enjoy.

Prayer
Dear God our Father, I take baby steps of faith, and based on this genuine faith, I am confident that You will show me what You can do. I want to know the excitement of seeing Your Work in me. All glory to you my Lord.
Through faith I receive Your Holy Spirit. Thanks for Your Spirit today and everyday. Your Spirit empowers me to go beyond my human limitations...beyond my physical ability and strength...for without You, I am so much weaker. I pray that I not measure my human limitations as I face the challenges and burdens before me. The issue is not my human limitations...the issue is Your Strength, not mine. I believe by walking closer to you, I can better understand and accomplish Your purpose with Your strength, not mine.
I pray in the name and authority of Jesus Christ - Amen

The Truth
And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.
And the Lord said, "If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you."
Luke 17:5-6
A faithful man shall abound with blessings

Stepping Stones: Wisdom During Trials

Transformational Tip
During time of trials and burdens we all lack the wisdom we need. But as a parents who love our kids, we place rules, give chores, have realistic expectations of our children which allow and push them to grow into their potential. Unfortunately, our children see them as trials and burdens. Amazing how we have the same child-like view of God's rules, chores, and expectations for our growth. Turn to God's gift of faith and Word...and through faith and His Word, you will receive His wisdom.

Prayer
Father, teach me how to pray to You,
I am learning Lord that the battles I fight each day are often difficult, but through these battles I trust You Lord that you are watching over me and that you have a plan for me and for all of us. I have challenges that are far too great for me to overcome; I thank You Lord for helping me endure these burdens with Your presence.
During times of burdens and trails, I lack wisdom oh Lord...I don't know what to do, which way to turn...but then I turn to the gift of faith that you have given me...and that faith leads me to believe that I will receive Your wisdom. Your Word tells me in James 1:5-6 that if I lack wisdom all I need to do is to ask You and You will give Your wisdom generously. I am asking Lord, give me Your wisdom this day. I ask with faith and without doubt Father, I pray that through Your grace I will get closer to You today and each day. Remind me that I cannot earn God's grace; that it is a gift that is our for the taking. Help me Believe, Receive...and then Become who You want me to be to further Your Kingdom. Give me all Your wisdom and peace, so that I can be victorious in our battles and trails. I ask You my Lord and God to align my desires with Your purpose. I ask this through the power of Jesus Christ - Amen

The Truth
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
James 1:5-6
And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge
Exodus 31:3

Stepping Stones: God Sees Us Differently

Transformation Tip
Try seeing yourself today through the eyes of God...see yourself as someone who is deeply loved and protected. God showed us His love, power, and desire to protect us through His actions on Christmas Day, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. This is more love, power, and protection than you or anyone else has ever provided for you. So rest in His loving hands.

Prayer
You are the peak of all my desires and all my hopes. You are the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last: who is, and was, and is to come. You have brought so many pleasures and blessings into my life. Thank You Jesus. I receive Your gifts with open arms, but help me my God to not cling to these gifts. At times I cling to the gifts and am fearful that I might lose them, but what a peaceful thought to know that the only thing I absolutely need is the one thing I can never lose: Your presence in me. Thank You Jesus.
Today I try to see myself through Your eyes my God. Through Your eyes I see my self as someone who is deeply loved and protected by Your presence which safely shields me from all evil.

The Truth
"I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty."
Revelation 1:8
Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.
Psalm 62:5-8

Stepping Stones: Storms Grow Us

Transformation Tip
Jesus calmed the storm when his disciples where afraid they would perish on the boat. Think about the storms in your life. During theses storms, put your trust in God. He allows the storms to occur to grow us just like good competition grows us and shows us what we need to work on. When you begin to panic, confess your need for Him, then trust He has a plan, and ask Him to show you the ways He wants to grow you into a strong Lighthouse by allowing this storm in your life.

Prayer
Father, I come to rest in your loving presence. I know this day and the days before me will bring difficulties. It is my human way to try and think my way through these trails all alone. Please remind me that you are with me...that I am not alone. I pray that you will send to me your peace, the peace that passes all understanding. My Lord, strengthen me and all those who pray with me today and prepare us for this day...transform our fear and anxiety into confident trust in you their God.

The Truth
...and he rose and rebuked the wind and said unto the sea; "Peace, be still" and the wind ceased and there was a great calm.
Mark 4:39
He maketh the storm calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
Psalm 107:29

Stepping Stones: FEAR Robs Us

Transformation Tip
Fear and anxiety are road blocks to achieving the mind of Christ. FEAR - False Evidence Appearing Real. Fear, worry, impatience, hopelessness are just some of the costs, when we believe Satan's deceptions. Don't' let Satan deceive you into believing his lies are reality. Let the Lord take control of your mind, and peace, patience, contentment, and hope will be your gift and influence your day.

Prayer
Dear Father,
I trust in You for You are my strength. Help me this day turn my fear and anxiety into energy that I can invest in trusting You and sing Your song. The battle of control for my mind is ranging, and the years of worry and doubt make me vulnerable to the enemy. Please take control of my mind Lord. Help me Lord not to worry about my weakness...for I know you will use this weakness to draw me closer to you. Knowing that your Holy Spirit is within me gives me comfort...that I do not fight theses battles alone.

The Truth
Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid; For the Lord is my strength and my song.
Isaiah 12:2
And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
Mark 4:40

Stepping Stones: Don't Confuse Spiritual Needs for Physical Needs

Transformational Tip
How many times have I tried to satisfy myself with food, drink, or another substance when my hunger or thirst isn't actually physical at all but rather a spiritual need in my life for God Himself? Let us be sure to take our spiritual needs to God and not mistake them for our physical needs. Take time to reflect on the difference between physical longings and spiritual longings. We can be sure that He will fill our spiritual needs when we bring them to His loving care.

Prayer
Dear Jesus,
You said that all who hunger and thirst should come to You, that You have the real food and drink we need for abundant life. Fill me with your Holy Spirit and then guide me to the greener pastures that are healthier for me. Enable me to make wise and balanced choices in what I consume because you have already filled me with Your Presence. I am spiritually fed and empowered from having been with You first.

The Truth
O, God, You are my God; early will I seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water. So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, to see Your power and Your glory.
Psalm 63:1-2
On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, 'If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.
John 7:37-38

Stepping Stones: Growing Faith

Transformational Tip
The book of Proverbs says that life and death are in the power of the tongue...what you talk about and think ...you bring to pass. When we begin to say the same thing God promises in the scripture...when we attempt to have the mind of Christ, our faith builds in our hearts and our lives begin to change forever.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, may Your name be holy in me. May Your kingdom come to me this day, And may I do Your will on earth as it is done in Heaven. Strengthen me this day in mind and body that we may have your mind and carry out Your will more completely. Forgive my offenses for it is not my desire to cause You pain or any other person as well. Give me a forgiving heart to those who would harm me and help me follow in the example Jesus has given me. Lead me not into temptation but deliver me from Satan and all his works and give me perseverance and strength in the face of temptation. For Your kingdom is everlasting.

The Truth
I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. My soul will boast in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and rejoice. Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together. I sought the Lord and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.
Psalm 34:1-7

Stepping Stones: Taking Time to Be in God's Presence

Transformational Tip
Slow down and take time to reach for and cling to the hand of your Lord. It could be through prayer, reading the Bible, listening to some Christian music, or meditating on past experiences with God. Journal about God's plan for you or call a Christian friend and talk about how your story fits into God's big story. You will find that it is this hand, His presence that will pull you up that steep hill before you.

Prayer
Dear Father, I come to you weary and burdened, I come to You to rest, I come for Your blessing and grace and to be restored. Thank You Jesus. Today I feel the way ahead of me is steep. I am slowing down Lord so I can cling tightly to Your hand. I feel You are teaching me a difficult yet important lesson. I am ready to learn Lord, I lift my hands up to you at this very moment, hands of faith to receive Your lesson, Your presence, Your Word. Light, Life, Joy, Peace flow freely from You. I know that when my focus turns away from You I reach for other things. In this reaching I drop the glowing gift of Your presence. I return to You my Lord, I turn to regain Your presence. I pray this in Jesus name - Amen

The Truth
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 11:28-29
