Transformational Tip
As an athlete, nervousness/anxiety about a future opponent…or while in a game, anxiety or fear in tense situations about the outcome…were common. Then my coach calms me, telling me everything will work out if I follow his strategy. He’s been there before, knows my opponent, knows what they will do, knows what me and our team can do, cares about me and is invested in my performance, and has prepared us specifically to face this opponent. Anxiety, worry and apprehension result from envisioning future events without God, our perfect coach. We might acknowledge He is our coach, but if we’re anxious, we aren’t really believing and following His coaching. He knows us, our opponent-Satan and Satan’s strategies, knows what the future holds, and loves us so much that He gave His son to secure our ultimate future. In any situation, if you turn your thoughts toward God as the perfect coach, trust His instructions, peace will squelch anxiety, you will think much more positively.
Today, when thinking about the future, anxieties sprout up like mushrooms. And the moment you begin to become anxious, remember the promise of God’s continual presence as your perfect coach. Make your thoughts a dialog with Him, listening to Him and His instruction, then adjust your view of your future accordingly to bring hope and assurance. Click here to share a situation where turning to God helped reduce anxiety or times where that is difficult…or other related thoughts.
Prayer
Dear Father God,
I come to You my Lord with a thankful heart. I thank You for the holy scripture which gives me hope and guidance. I confess Father that I spent too much time worrying about the future. I confess to trying to be god of my fantasies. Help me realize Lord the reality that Your presence with me, now and forever, outshines any fantasy I could ever imagine. Help me Lord to place you in any future scenarios that enter my mind. It is facing the future without You and Your perfect coaching that creates anxiety within me. I pray Father that You will also lead me to others who suffer daily with anxiety and fear. Use me Lord to remind those in need of Your continual presence for those who believe. I pray in Jesus’ holy name, and all God’s people said – AMEN!
The Truth
Then Jesus said to his disciples: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?”
