Transformational Tip
We live among people who glorify busyness…they have made time a bully that controls their lives. Even those who know Christ as their savior march to the drum of this world…Boom, Boom, Boom! We buy into the illusion that more is better…more meetings, more time at church, more activity. I often emphasize the importance of seeing clearly…seeing everything from a Godly perspective…that is the first and keystone ingredient to having the mind of Christ. Part of Satan’s strategy is to get the merry-go-round to spin faster and faster, making it hard to get off…and I just get dizzier. It’s impossible to see straight if I am dizzy. How did Jesus deal with time and the push to do more? Amazing how many times He went away and prayed, had alone time, devotional time, just chilled with God, His father. Hearing Lazarus was sick, Jesus didn’t rush…He waited 2 days to leave.
Today, put the world with it’s non-stop demands on hold. Spend some time alone with your Lord. Shut off your radio in your commute, mute the TV for commercials, read the Bible instead of the paper…talk and listen to God. Most people put God on hold, rationalizing that someday they will find time to focus on Him. But the longer we push Him into the background of our lives, just like any file, the harder it is to find Him. Click here to share with the stepping stone community your struggles and successes in finding time to be with God.
Prayer
Dear Father,
I know now that you have called me to follow You on a solitary path. I know that making time alone with You must be my highest priority…and my deepest joy. I know Your pathway is largely unappreciated and even despised by some. However, when I spend time with you, I know Lord, that I have chosen the better thing, which will never be taken from me. I want to walk closely with You Lord, and as we walk, I pray that You will bless others through me. I pray in Jesus’ steadying name, and all God’s children said, – Amen!
The Truth
The fig tree forms its early fruit; the blossoming vines spread their fragrance. Arise, come, my darling; my beautiful one, come with me."
Song of Songs 2:13
…but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.
Luke 10:42
So, when he heard that Lazarus was ill, he stayed two days longer in the place where he was.

Stepping Stones: “…couldn’t put Humpty together again...”
Transformational Tip
Yesterday we talked about how the King of Kings really can put all our pieces back together…heal…make whole again…true shalom. Do you ever wonder why then you and I aren’t whole again? Isn’t that how all Disney fairy tales end, especially the real, for all the marbles, fairy tale is supposed to end…everything is the way it’s supposed to be, the king rescuing and saving His beloved from the evil, rebellious prince. The reason the King hasn’t put us totally back together again is because we withhold pieces from Him. Because of His love for us, He never has and never will force us to give our pieces back to Him to fix and heal. He is waiting for us to give the pieces to Him and submit to His healing work with those pieces.
What pieces are you not giving Him to work with? The longer you withhold the pieces from Him, the longer it takes Him to put you back together. You see, that is what the Bible is all about…a real life fairy tale about how the King himself will fix, heal, shalom, make you totally whole again. Make you Christ-like.
Today, identify a piece in your life that you haven’t submitted to Him. Why not? What is your track record with that piece? Let God really have a shot at it without you trying to grab it back and sabotage His efforts. You will be amazed at what He wants to heal and grow in you. Just look at all the stories in the Bible. Click here to share with the stepping stone community what you have trouble turning over to God, or what happened when you did.
Prayer
Dear Father, I thank You for the healing power of Your son Jesus Christ. I have read about it in the BibIe and seen it in other people’s lives. I want it for my life to. I confess I am afraid to turn certain things over to You. I am under the false impression that I love me, know me, and can help me more than You can. Open my eyes to my destructive activities and help me give You a chance and trust Your track record over mine. Thank you for Your son’s death to heal my ultimate pain and help me learn how to apply that to this life as well. I humbly(and will try to stay humble) ask this in the healing name of Christ, and all God’s people said, AMEN!
Truth
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:6-8
One's pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.
Proverbs 29:23
For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: "I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.

Stepping Stones: “…all the king’s horses and all the king’s men...”
Transformational Tip
Humpty Dumpty was one of my favorite nursery rhythms. You remember that one…he falls off the wall and no one…not even all the king’s resources can put him back together again.
But what about the King of Kings? Today’s scripture tells us how a great crowd of people were brought to Jesus to be healed…and he healed them! Jesus is still in the business of healing broken lives. He can and will put “all the pieces back together again.” Who do you know that needs Christ’s healing touch?
Today, bring them to Jesus through prayer the power of prayer. Or explain to them how He has put your pieces back together again…explaining to them the reason for the hope and peace that you have and enjoy. Click here to share with the stepping stone community your thoughts on Jesus’ power to repair broken lives.
Prayer
Oh My King,
I thank You Father for the healing power of Your son Jesus Christ. I know he has the power to repair my broken life…and the lives of all those who come before him in belief. Help me Lord to bring those who are broken to You. Help me, Father, to always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks me…to give the reason for the hope that I have in You. I pray in the name of the great healer, Jesus Christ, and all God’s children said, – AMEN!
The Truth
Crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them. The people were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled made well, the lame walking and the blind seeing. And they praised the God of Israel.
Matthew 15:30-31
But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,

Stepping Stones: Be An Encourager
Transformational Tip
Have you ever run a long distance race? As you near the end of the race your legs ache, your throat burns…your whole body cries out for you to stop. This is when the fans on the sidelines are most valuable. Their encouragement helps you to push through the pain and cross the finish line.
There are those around you (maybe even yourself) who are running the race of their life every day. Their minds scream, their bodies ache…and they doubt they will make it through the day. To them, making it through the day without totally giving up (or giving in) is, in fact, crossing the finish line. I have had days and times like this, how about you? A word of encouragement from you might make the difference in them making it through the day instead of collapsing along the way.
Today, be sensitive to others’ need for encouragement, and offer words of support or action. I’m sure there is someone’s name or face popping up in your mind right now; give then a call, drop in to see them, prepare a meal, send them a note…pray that the Lord’s light will shine through you to remove their darkness. Click here to share with the stepping stone community your thoughts on providing or needing encouragement.
Prayer
Dear Father God,
I thank you Father for all that I have. I confess that I too often seclude myself in my own cocoon. There are so many around me that need encouragement to make it to the finish line each day. Help me help them Lord. Help me be mindful to offer words of encouragement. Help me communicate to others the promise of Your Peace. Move me to where I need to be to witness to and encourage those in need. Help me see through the masks of those trying to put on a good face when inside they are crumbling. Us me today Lord to further Your kingdom even in ways that I do not understand. I pray to You my Father with thankfulness and bold expectation in the name of Your Son Jesus, and all God’s children said, – AMEN!
The Truth
For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
1 Thessalonians 5:9-11
Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; you shall cry, and he will say, 'Here I am.' If you take away the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. And the LORD will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.

Stepping Stones: The Ripple Effect
Transformational Tip
So many of us look at the world…with all its problems, disobedience, ignorance, unbelief…and think to ourselves, "can I really do anything that would make a difference at all?" We sit around waiting for someone else to make the first move…when nothing happens, we certainly don't blame ourselves. It's our nature to look anywhere but where we should…within. We need to start with ourselves…anchoring ourselves spiritually before attempting to make any positive change in the world around us. Christian Action calls for a PLAN - using Jesus as our model. I’m not talking about volunteering at church or attending that extra weekday service. I’m talking about spreading the message, furthering the kingdom of God. God wants to use you now in people’s lives.
Today, make a plan through thought and prayer. Once you begin to work your plan, keep your faith and remember to be flexible…things are not always going to go as you thought they might. Keep your perspective, be authentic, and don't do it alone! Surround yourself with other Christians - God's grace creates enthusiasm to pass it on…so use this to your advantage. Christian Action becomes Everyday Action…you will see the change not only in yourself, but in the world around you! Begin to create your ripple. Click here to share with the stepping stone community your thoughts of creating a ripple effect.
Prayer
Dear Father God,
I look at what a mess this world has become and think there is nothing I can do to help change it…making it more to Your liking. Teach me Lord to start with myself and lead a Christian life that involves action and not just thinking, sitting, and then doing nothing. Like a pebble being thrown into still water, let my actions ripple outward…spreading to those around me. Help me to make a plan, using Jesus as my model. Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life.” Help me Father to follow His way. Allow Him to shine in me through my everyday actions. I pray this to you in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, and all God’s children said, - AMEN!
The Truth
Do all things without grumbling or questioning, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,

Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.

Stepping Stones: His Honeymoon Never Ends
Transformational Tip
Marriage vows. That moment, “To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness or in health, to love and to cherish 'till death do us part.” That’s the closest many of us ever get to believing we can give unconditional love. Unfortunately for all of us, it has an expiration date…the honeymoon ends. Boy am I glad God isn’t so weak with keeping His unconditional vow to me and His honeymoon with me is everlasting. No matter what is going on in my life, no matter what acceptance or rejection I am receiving from others…no matter how badly I feel about myself…I can know that God accepts me and loves me, unconditionally. What does unconditional really mean? It means complete, guaranteed…no conditions, limitations, or stipulations attached. His love is total and it doesn’t make a difference how bad I mess up.
Today, remember, if you are Christian, God looks at you as if you have never sinned…He sees us through the veil of Jesus’s perfect righteousness. Be thankful and express gratitude for this wonderful gift of love. Share it verbally with one person and in deed with another. Click here to share with the stepping stone community your thoughts on God’s unconditional love.
Prayer
Dear Father,
I am so thankful for scripture at a time like this. I feel totally lost and rejected. But when I read Your Holy Word it feels like a warm blanket on a cold day. To know that You chose me…and that even after all my sinning You Hold me blameless. Thank You Father. Help me remember Father that you have called me to follow You on a solitary path, designed just for me. It is a pathway that I underappreciated and at times even despise. Help me remember today and always that You have chosen the better thing for me, and help me follow the stepping stones You have laid before me. I pray this in Jesus’ precious name, and all God’s children said, - AMEN!
The Truth
For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will
Ephesians 1:4-5
He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

Stepping Stones: Run! Don’t Walk
Transformational Tip
Temptation is everywhere. Our world is filled with moral depravity and sin-induced pressures. It ranges from things we should not hear, images we should not see, people we shouldn’t touch, substances we should not take…to food we should not eat. It’s everywhere.
The bible teaches us so much about temptation. It tells us that:
Prayer
Dear Father God,
I am becoming increasingly aware of the ever-present temptation swirling around me. Satan tempted Jesus by offering Him the whole world if Jesus would only bow down to him. Today the devil constantly temps me by offering me the world by trying to entice me with materialism and power. Help me Father. When I find myself craving something that I know is not of You, help me quote Jesus’ words to satan; “, "Away from me, satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.”
I pray with hope and confidence in the name of my teacher and savior Jesus Christ, and all God’s children said, – AMEN!
The Truth
Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.”
Matthew 4:10
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
1 Corinthians 10:13
Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
2 Timothy 2:22
I will deliver you out of the hand of the wicked, and redeem you from the grasp of the ruthless.
Jeremiah 15:21

The bible teaches us so much about temptation. It tells us that:
- Wrong desires and temptation happen to everyone, so don’t feel you’ve been singled out
- Others have resisted temptation and so can you
- Any temptation can be resisted because God is there to help you
- Be aware that the closer you get to temptation, the better it seems to look. So don’t try and get closer for a better look. Don’t test your ability to resist…at some point it will just suck you in.
- Seek to have the “mind of Christ”, this will help you always do what is right.
- Pray for God’s help in resisting temptation.
- Say the word’s Jesus said to satan; "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.”
- Seek friends who love God and will help you when you are tempted.

Stepping Stones: The Stupor of Self-Sufficiency
Transformational Tip
Clear skies, smooth sailing. We all love when life is storm-free. However, there is always a “yeah but.” Relying on God in the midst of adversity and storms is tough to do, and for most, tough enough even to remember to do. Even with the wake-up call adversity presents, looking to God first is tough for many. Even tougher is that we really forget about Him when life is flowing freely…and this is where the stupor of self-sufficiency sets in. We begin to think less about God…we think we can handle life on our own. Isn’t this one of our foundational building blocks of our struggles. We usually don’t leave God out intentionally, we just forget about His sovereignty and how much He does for us all the time.
It comes down to constancy of trust in God. In addition to trusting Him in a crisis or major decision, strengthen your trust in Him as you move through your day. God cares as much about your tiny trust-steps through daily life as He does about your dramatic leaps of faith. You may think that no one notices while you are in the stupor of self-sufficiency, but the One who is always beside you sees everything…and wants to help you with amazing power and options.
Today, what He can accomplish in and through you is directly proportional to how much you depend on Him…trust Him. Keep track of how many times you think of God first in various parts of your day. Click here to share with the stepping stone community your thoughts on the stupor of self-sufficiency.
Prayer
Dear Father God,
I trust You God with every fiber of my being. I thank you Lord for the times in my life where I am trouble-free. In those times I feel I can recharge my battery…catch up. But I am also aware of the self-sufficiency trap…to falling into the trap and stupor of self-sufficiency. Help me Father to continuously demonstrate my trust in You, to keep my mind steadfast on You. I know that consistently trusting You is vital to me flourishing in Your Presence. I pray with trust in the name of Jesus Christ, and all God’s children said, – AMEN!
The Truth
You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal.
Isaiah 26:3-4
Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods.
Psalm 40:4
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."
John 16:33
Stepping Stones: Fashion Statement
Transformational Tip
We all start our day by putting on clothes, fixing our hair, make-up for women. We think about our day, what we will be doing…we check the weather. The most important variable as we pick out our clothes for the day is…….who are we going to see. If I am going to see my wife and kids, people that already really know me, I’m wearing my PJ’s. Our clothes really play a big part in determining what and who we want to reveal (or cover up) to those that don’t really know us. Wouldn’t we really want to reveal our relationship and eternal security with God. The Bible is full of references of clothing ourselves with God. It’s a beautiful thought.
At the beginning of each day, as you put on your clothes, put Him on…wear Him. To “wear Him” is to have His mind, to think his thoughts, exude His attitude, extend His compassion, give His love. Let God be what people see when they see you. He will be the most attractive fashion you will ever choose.
Today, consider what you wear from your clothes to your mental attitude and your actions. Ask the Holy Spirit to help control your thinking; to be transformed by this renewal within you. Clothing yourself in Him is the best preparation for each day. This discipline will bring joy and peace to you and all those around you. Click here to share with the stepping stone community your thoughts on what fashion you choose and why.
Prayer
Dear Father, I want to find a way to begin each day by seeking Your face. I know that by “putting You on” as I get dressed each day I will begin my day by communicating with You, getting to know You better. I know that “wearing You” will prepare me for whatever comes my way. As I get dressed each day, guide my thoughts so pleasing You overpowers the urge to impress others as I choose my wardrobe. I pray with a thankful heart and in the name of my savior Jesus Christ, as I am clothed with His blood and righteousness, and all God’s children said, - AMEN!
The Truth
My heart says of you, "Seek his face!" Your face, LORD, I will seek.
Psalm 27:8
Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.
Romans 13:14
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Stepping Stones: There are No Secrets
Transformational Tip
When my daughter was 4 years old she had this belief that if she covered her face no one could see her…if she couldn’t see me, I couldn’t see her. When she would become “invisible” I would call out “where’s Jenna..I can’t find Jenna.” I could see her smiling behind her little hands as she covered her face. We can learn so much from children.
A Stepping Stones member wrote a heartfelt response to the September 28 devotional titled, Afraid to Fall? At the end Scott wrote “…I don't want to be lukewarm anymore - living in passivity and uselessness to the one who saved me... but I really don't want my secrets to be uncovered...”
So many of us live with this fear…fear of God knowing our secrets…our sins. News Flash! He already knows everything about us. We can try and cover our face and become invisible, we can try to run and hide. But He knows every move, action and thought…and he still loves us…still forgives us. There are no secrets.
Our secrets usually translate to “our sins.” Many times our sinful ways give us the false impression of peace and security. Many times we resist giving ourselves totally to God because we know this means giving up our embedded sinful ways; stop the drugs, stop the lustful thoughts, try and stop our sinful attitudes. What we don’t realize and many times don’t believe is that God’s peace and blessings are oh so much more satisfying than our “secrets.”
Today, accept the fact that God sees everything thing you do, hears everything you say…knows everything thing you think. Right now, pray to Him about your darkest secret. He already knows but practice opening up to Him to receive His guidance, forgiveness, and peace. You can take your hands off your face; he sees you and loves you. All he asks is that you Believe>Receive>Become. Click here to share with the stepping stone community your thoughts on this devotional. Let’s learn and grow together.
Prayer
Dear Father,
Yes, I have been trying to keep my secrets from You. How foolish this sounds even as I pray these words to You. I have been fearful to have my sinful past illuminated by Your brilliant light. My tendency has been to hide from my own sins, seeking refuge in the darkness where I have believed, like my daughter, that I become invisible. In that darkness I indulge in self-pity, blaming and even hatred. I know and believe that You are the light of the world Father…and Your illumination decimates my darkness. Thank You God. I come close to You my Lord and God to let Your light envelop me, driving out the darkness and filling me with Your peace. I do not want any more secrets…for I know that secrets created loneliness and distance from You. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, and all God’s people said, – AMEN!
The Truth
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
John 8:12
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
1 John 1:7
But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall.

Stepping Stones: "I'm fine, you?"
Transformational Tip
"How are you?" "Great, how are you?" "Yea, I'm good, too." Every Sunday morning, interchanges like this are spoken a zillion (indescribably large number) times. Unfortunately, a lot of times, things aren't "great, good, or fine." I've spoken to many people who told me they were afraid to talk to anyone at church for several years as a problem escalated until the details couldn't be hidden anymore. Unfortunately, problems only get worse when unattended. It's amazing to me how often we hide the truth from each other, especially since the people we're hiding from might be able to pray, listen, guide, or connect us to services or care to help our situation. So many times, someone has opened up to me in church, not knowing I am a psychiatrist, and I was able to care for or connect them to care for their troubled situation. Other times someone else in the church that they opened up to, referred them to me. Embarrassment, shame, pride, fear...that's what Satan uses to keep the body from uniting and working together. Don't let this happen to you. We weren't made to handle and accomplish everything on our own...we were made to work on teams...marriage, family, employers, church, community, extended family, etc.
Today, think about how you will respond tomorrow (and every Sunday/day in church). If you are the one asking "how are you?" then really be an attentive listener to allow the person a place to be open. If you are the recipient of the question, maybe something like, "well, the week has been a little tough, can I vent a little to you, or can you direct me to someone who can listen and help?"
If you are in a church that will not be compassionate toward your issue and will judge and avoid you, get out of that church to one that will care for you. If what you are doing is wrong, don't look for the church to condone it, but they should be able to love, care for, and support you to help you make better choices. Click here to share your experiences and perspective with other readers on this issue of transparency at Church.
Prayer
Dear Father, thank you so much for your unconditional love and forgiveness for all my problems and actions. Please help me speak up and share my burden with others and open my ears to the guidance and wisdom you provide through your humble and wise servants. Help me discern good counsel and follow it. I want connection and help, but I choke at the opportunity to speak up. Encourage me thru Your Spirit to not be ashamed or afraid to expose and ask for help. I pray in Christ's all revealing name and work, and all God's people said, AMEN!
The Truth
For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function,
so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.
Romans 12:3-5
Oil and perfume make the heart glad, and the sweetness of a friend comes from his earnest counsel.

Stepping Stones: I’m so Busy!
Transformational Tip
How many times have you heard someone say; "I'm so busy" or "I just have so much to do"? How many times have you said it yourself? It’s so easy to get consumed with things. Have you ever stopped and asked yourself what are you doing with your time? Do you find yourself just running from place to place? Do you feel like life is just passing us by. We're doing so many things, a little bit of everything, and yet it doesn't feel like much of a life at all. But most of us find it hard to say no. We feel obligated. There are so many good things to do. So many good causes to join. But while we're busy doing all these good things, are we missing out on something great? Maybe saying no would be easier if we knew what wonderful things are possible when we say yes to spending time with God.
Today, think about how you spend your time? Really look at how much time you spend with your spouse, kids, and God. Think about saying no to some things so you can say yes to something that might transform your life.

Prayer
Dear Father God,
I’m frazzled Lord. I feeling like I’m running from the time I wake until the time I go to bed. I feel as if someone else is in control of my time. I keep saying yes to everything. Help me Father to say no to the things that consume my time and deliver little value. Help me Father to learn how to say yes to those things that glorify You…that get me closer to You. I want to do Your work Lord; I want to further Your Kingdom. I pray this in the name of Jesus, and all God’s people said, – AMEN!
The Truth
“You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?" declares the LORD Almighty. "Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with his own house.”
Haggai 1:9
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Stepping Stones: Anxiety Will Eat You Alive!
Transformational Tip
Anxiety and worry are enemies. Anxiety comes from the word “Fretting.” The definition of fretting is to eat away or corrode the surface of something. It makes sense doesn’t it? Think of the negative effects of worry;

Prayer
Dear Father God, I come to You worn down and consumed by worry. I know that You see this Lord as a form of disbelief in You; forgive me Father. I thank You Father for the Holy Scripture that tells me over and over again that God will provide for all my needs. I want to believe You deeply. Help me Lord to see the difference between healthy concern and futile worry. Help me first seek Your Kingdom and Your righteousness, fill my thoughts with Your desires and to serve You and obey You in everything I do. Stepping Stones: Trust With All Your Heart and Mind
Transformational Tip
My mother had a couple of Christian themes that she tried to embed in the minds of us children. One of those themes was to trust God with our whole heart and minds. Not just to mouth the words, rather to live like we trusted Him completely. I put this to practical application one day when I was 6 years old. I was climbing the old plum tree in the back yard and decided to hang upside down off a branch like a possum. I could not get myself back up onto the branch…I was stuck. After yelling frantically for my mom, the often delivered message came to my mind; trust God with everything. So I closed my eyes and asked God to get me out of this tree. I immediately fell out of the tree into a soft pile of sand in our sandbox. I was so excited to tell my mom that trusting God really works. Mom always loved to retell that story.
Today, practice trusting in God with more and more areas of your life. Instead of fearing and running away from situations, embrace them with an eagerness to gain all the blessings God has hidden in those difficulties. Click here to share your experiences and perspective with other readers on the subject of trusting in God.
Prayer
Dear Father God,
I believe Father that You are sovereign over every aspect of my life…and that it is possible to trust You in all situations. Help me Lord to stop wasting so much energy regretting the way things are or thinking about what might have been. Help me Lord begin now, at the present moment – accepting things exactly as they are – and to search for Your way in the very midst of my situation. I pray this with confidence in the name of my savior Jesus Christ, and all God’s people said, – AMEN!
The Truth
But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God's unfailing love forever and ever.
Psalm 52:8
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6
He said to them, "Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?"
Mark 4:40

Stepping Stones: A Real Makeover
Transformational Tip
So much time and effort goes into touching up (or overhauling) our outward appearance. Hiding our defects. We are so concerned about our looks. It’s almost as if we believe the touch-ups hide our internal nicks, defects, and scars… frustration, hurts, emptiness, and our true feelings of inadequacies. Don’t get me wrong; being good stewards of our bodies is important. Unfortunately, I see a lot of people trying to fix up the outside, hopping that fixes, or at least hides the inside issues. Why? Because, most people know how to fix up their outside, but have trouble knowing how to work on and fix the deeper issues on the inside. Our external makeovers can fool most people, but as we know, God can see straight through that outer veneer and right into our very being. There is no place for pretense in your relationship with our Lord and God. A real external makeover really starts on the inside, then the growth will shine through and make the outside glow, and people will notice and wonder, “Wow, I want to be like that!”
Today, identify what you want to work on, and then click here to see the unique and practical resource, WITHIN REACH, we’ve developed to help you grab the life God has for you. Rejoice in the belief and relief of being fully understood, fully loved by God. Click here to share your perspective and experience on the subject of always trying makeover your life from the inside out instead of the outside in.
Prayer
Dear Father God,
I come to you with a thankful heart and open mind to receive all that You have for me. Bless me Father and fill me with Your grace and peace. I have been ashamed of my emptiness in the past and I have been guilty of hiding behind “looking good.” Thank you for giving me a way to renew my mind and put off my old self and put on a new self, a real makeover from the inside out. I am no longer afraid of my issues; for now I realize I can do something about them thru the power and guidance of your Holy Spirit. Help me to be intentional in pursuing the mind of Christ and following Your instructions. I pray in Christ’s perfect name, and all God’s people said, – AMEN!
The Truth
But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."
1 Samuel 16:7
to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
Ephesians 4:22-24
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Stepping Stones: Are You Afraid to Fall?
Transformational Tip
As a young boy I spent many afternoons at the local roller-skating rink. My father was a great skater. When he skated, everyone stopped to watch. I worked hard to try and get as good as my dad. Upon returning from the rink one day my dad asked me how many times I fell that day. I was proud to tell him that I didn’t fall once. He then told me that I must not have learned anything new that day; “If you are not falling…you are not learning.”
True dependence is not simply asking God to bless what you have decided to do. It means coming to him with an open mind and heart, inviting Him to plant His desires and will within you. The only way to achieve a victorious life is by living in deep dependence on Him. Stretching ourselves and depending on Him is scary at times, but also so freeing when we see His hand at work, guiding and helping us. For God to grow us, you need to reflect and evaluate what happened so the “falls” or mistakes can be learned from so He can show us new things and grow us.
We wrongly associate victory with success, by not falling and stumbling…by not making mistakes. It is only through problems and failure, weakness and neediness that we learn to rely on Him. Today, look at a recent failure or mistake and tell someone who knows you. Ask them what God might have been showing you through that experience. Click here to share your perspective with other readers on the power of true dependence on Him or what you have learned through your mistakes.
Prayer
Dear Father,
I come to you with open hands and an open heart. I pray Lord that You will infuse within me a dream that appears to be far beyond my reach. I will know Father that it will be impossible by myself to achieve this dream…and this will begin my total reliance on You. I know Father the path You have created for me is not a path of continued success, rather a path of multiple failures. I have faith, Father, that each failure will be followed by a spiritual growth spurt, nourished by my increased reliance on You. Help me Father, enjoy the blessedness of a victorious life through deepening my dependence on You. I pray in Jesus’ all providing name, and all God’s people said, – AMEN!
The Truth
We live by faith, not by sight.

Stepping Stones: Watch Your Mouth
Transformational Tip
Our mother had little tolerance for the use of profanity in her home. She wouldn’t yell or punish us, she would simply say; “Whenever someone uses profanity, it only shows their ignorance.” But if we abused God’s name as profanity, Mom would come down on us like a ton of bricks. We learned at an early age that if we used this verbal assault on our Lord, the words were heard all the way to heaven. I am saddened how Our Father’s name is constantly abused in the world today, where people use it freely as a curse word. Let’s all begin to counter this world’s blasphemies by trustingly uttering “Jesus.” The incredible power of using His name to honor Him, bless us, and reorient us to His majesty and holiness is beyond our understanding.
Today, whenever you feel distant from God, whisper His Name in loving trust. This simple, one word prayer can restore your awareness of His closeness to you and remind you of His love for you. Click here to share your perspective with other readers about what you think or feel when you say His name.
Prayer
Dear Father God,
It pains me to hear Your name used as profanity. Help me teach others that the grating rancor of the world’s blasphemies cannot compete with God’s children praying the word “Jesus.” Help me Father to use Your name in a way that soothes Your aching ears from all the world’s profanity. Help me remember that there is no name other than Yours by which we are saved. I pray in the loving name of Jesus Christ, and all God’s people said, – AMEN!
The Truth
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."
Acts 4:12
Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.

Stepping Stones: Time to Stand Up!
Transformational Tip
We live in a time when people are standing up for all sorts of causes. We have people standing up for the rights of animals. We have people standing up for the environment. We have people standing up for perverse sexual lifestyles. We have people standing up for everything imaginable, even willing to die for their cause. I love my wife and kids and would fight to the death if someone was attacking them. David knew what was worth standing up for as he spent much time praying to, learning from, and trusting in God. David couldn’t stand to hear Goliath blaspheme someone he loved so dearly, His true and living God. Without fear or hesitation, and with great confidence, David was ready to stand up and fight the mighty, giant warrior everybody, even Saul, feared. Why? Because David knew God stood up for him, and later his messiah, Jesus, would stand up for him.
Isn't it time that we, as Christians, stand up for what we believe? To David, standing up for God was a no-brainer. What about you?
Today, stand up, be heard and don’t be ashamed of the truth, which is found in Christ… no matter what the consequences! Be a Lighthouse, speak the truth excitedly and boldly thru your actions and attitudes. If it is a testy situation, speak calmly and in love, but don’t be afraid to stand up clearly for our Savior and His name. Click here to share with us your experience and thoughts about standing up for Christ or when you had trouble standing up.
Prayer
Dear Father God, Thank you so much for standing up for me when you didn’t have to, even though I don’t express my thanks and gratitude very well with my actions. Thanks for bearing my burden for me. Draw me closer to You today and make me more passionate for those around me. Help me to love You more than myself, so I will die to myself, take up my cross, and follow You. Help me see You clearly, and not be so deceived by fear of other’s opinions or consequences so I can stand up for You. Give me the strength and the words to stand up for You. I pray in the name of Your Son Jesus Christ, and all God’s people said, – AMEN!
The Truth
“If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.”
Mark 8:38
Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name.
Acts 5:41
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

Stepping Stones: You Have to Know the Author!
Transformational Tip
In high school, when I read Romeo and Juliet or Julius Caesar, I often thought I would understand and be impacted deeper if I really knew Shakespeare…his personality, nuances, life. When watching “Biography” on TV, I am more interested, intrigued, and impacted when I “know” or “intereacted” with the subject…like Gilligan, Bob Barker, Ronald Reagan…as opposed to subjects that really never touched my life. If you were to read my personal journal, your understanding and enjoyment of it would be dramatically impacted by whether you knew me personally or not. Well the bible, God’s journal is the same way. The bible is a great book, filled with great life tips, but to really maximize the treasure inside it, you really need to know and be in relationship with the author. Then it really comes alive and is more powerful than anything except the Trinity themselves. Get to know the Author, then He and His journal will make more sense and have more authority in your life.
Today, ask yourself “does the Bible make sense to me?“ “do I easily practice what it says?” If you aren’t confident in your answers, ask “how much time a day do I spend relating to and getting to know God?” Read a couple Psalms, or one of Paul’s letters to know God better. Click here to share with us your experience and thoughts about whether knowing Him and understanding/implementing the Bible are related.
Prayer
Dear Father God, I praise You as the Author of the big story. Thank you for making things so clear in Your word. I confess, I want to take shortcuts at times…not spend time getting to know You or be in Your great storybook, journal, instruction manual. Then I wonder, why I am frustrated, insecure, and lost at times. Thanks for Your Holy Spirit in me to help me digest Your Word and apply it to me life and help me get out of the way and then follow the Holy Spirit’s direction for my life. I pray in the name of the Author of my salvation, Jesus Christ, and all God’s people said, – AMEN!
The Truth
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.

Stepping Stones: Why We Search
Transformational Tip
When you are searching for your keys, it is because they are not in the right place…lost. When we are in Washington, DC and searching for the Washington Monument, the monument isn’t lost, we are lost. We search for the Truth not because it is lost, we search for the Truth because we are lost. We were designed by God to search and find Him. Our search is usually for comfort, peace, love, happiness, being valued…all things God can and wants to give us. Unfortunately, instead of one-stop shopping, going to God for everything, we search in many other places and things for the desires of our heart. We try to find relief at work, computer, food, relationships, kids, our grown-up toys, getting ahead, but we are looking in the wrong places.…we search because we are lost. God isn’t lost, He is in the same place all the time…you’ll find Him in His word, thru prayer, and orchestrating your circumstances to direct you back on track to Him. Where is your searching leading you? Let the word of God be submerged into your mind and spirit; “Seek and you will find” “I am the way, the truth and the life”
Today, If you are searching for anything other than His Truth…it’s time for a route correction. Identify what you are searching for, and where instead of God you are trying to find it. Click here to share how searching for God’s Truth has changed your life...or with questions on how to improve your search.
Prayer
Dear Father,
I have been searching my entire life Lord…but I have been searching in the wrong places. My searching has led me to some very bad decisions which caused pain and suffering for me and for those I love. I thank You Father for the lighthouses you have brought into my life. For those who have helped guide me step by step to You. I thank You for the new focus of my search. I search for You Lord, for a deeper and deeper relationship with You. I pray Father for the Stepping Stones community that they too may focus their search toward the Truth…toward You Father. I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ whose Truth became flesh, and all God’s people said, – AMEN!
The Truth
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
Matthew 7:7-8
Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now by this I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in your mouth is the truth.”
1 Kings 17:24
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
