Stepping Stones: Eggs In the Wrong Basket

Transformational Tip
We are taught lessons beginning at an early age. Who we should be. How we should act. We learn these lessons first from our parents…and then from the world…society. Our parents taught us what they thought was right; but as adults we now have the ability (and obligation) to rethink and relearn as we strive to achieve the “mind of Christ.”
One of the “lessons” I was taught from a very young age - to become self sufficient… to not need anyone. To rely on no one. Accomplish and do things for myself, from taking my first step, feeding myself, doing my own homework, driving to baseball practice myself, etc. The intent was good, the lesson was flawed. While self-sufficiency is acclaimed and valued in the world, Reliance on Your Lord and God is the only way to produce abundant living here on earth and enter into His Kingdom.
Today, Exercise those faith muscles…identify an area of your life where you put your confidence and reliance in yourself…and leave God out until it’s an emergency. Let God in by praying about it then listening to God’s input (through others or circumstances). Don’t put your eggs in the wrong basket. Click here and tell us about it. We want to hear!

Prayer
Dear Father God,
I know that You designed me to be totally reliant on You. I know You have created me to be dependent on You. From the very beginning of creation people have strived wrongly to be totally independent, they have resisted relying on You. Even Adam and Eve’s first sin is evidence that they decided to live independently. I have turned to You Lord and are striving to be dependent on You during my life’s storms. I pray now that You help me turn to You, to rely on You continually. In the good times and the bad. I know that my renewed awareness of my neediness for You is a blessing, not a weakness. Teach me Father to depend on You more and more.

The Truth
I have set the LORD always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Psalm 16:8
But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. "Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Matthew 6:30-34
